Based on the Shiva Purana, it was composed of 100,000 verses but the Purana declares that they were abridged by sage Vyasa. [5][88 Klaus Klostermaier estimates that some chapters in the remaining Shiva Purana manuscripts were probably written around the 14th century.

The Shiva Purana contains chapters on Shiva-centered cosmology and mythology. It also discusses the relationship between Gods and ethics Yoga as well as Tirtha (pilgrimage), sites, bhakti and geography.

The Vayu Purana was called Shiva Purana in the 19th and 20th century. It was also sometimes included as part of the whole Shiva Purana. Modern scholarship regards the two as distinct texts and distinct, with Vayu Purana to be the oldest text, composed prior to the 2nd century CE. It's sometimes referred to as the Mahapurana by certain scholars, but is also referred to as an Upapurana by others.

There are a variety of recensions of the text exist. Six Samhitas (sections) together form this Bombay 1884 manuscript recension made available with the help of Vangavasi Press in Calcutta in 1896.

This is a dialectical cultural tradition; science was expressed through stories. The whole world has been made into a person. In the end, people discarded the science and simply carried on the stories. And the stories were embellished from generation to generation to the point of being completely absurd. If you add scientists back into stories, it is the most beautiful way to present the scientific method.

Yoga is described as a science with no stories attached to it however, if you look at it from a higher perspective, yoga and Shiva Purana are not able to be separated. The one is for those who enjoy stories. The other is for those looking at everything scientifically. However, the fundamentals of both are the same.
